Have you ever thought about joining the PTA?
These days, schools are asked to do more with less. Our help is needed more than ever to fill the gaps.
Our fundraising events and activities have raised thousands of pounds over the years and contributed to school trips and visits from outside agencies, computer equipment, sports equipment, books and other teaching resources. In addition to this, the PTA fund buys termly treats for the pupils which include Easter Eggs, ice lollies and gift vouchers for school leavers. Our yearly events and activities have varied over the years but currently include school discos, the summer fair and Christmas cards.
We have also set up “STAR – Second Time ARound uniform”.
This is a uniform recycling site for donations of good quality used uniform; and environmentally friendly initiative with all proceeds going to the PTA school fund. Thank you in advance to everyone who may donate or consider buying from the site.
With additional help and ideas we could provide a wider range of activities and in turn, raise more funds. There are occasional meetings where we organise events or discuss ideas but it is not expected that you attend every one.
We understand that people are often reluctant to join the PTA because they’re afraid they’ll get pulled into a black hole of never-ending volunteering. That won’t happen here.
An hour or two a year really makes a difference. We won’t push you to commit more than you want to or are able to. Contributions of ideas or donations to raffle prizes are as welcome as an hour’s supervision at an event.
The PTA however, is not all about fundraising. It is a small team of people who have come together to work towards common goals. Anyone is welcome to join us, parents or grandparents, we are a friendly and approachable group. We accomplish a lot and although not everything we do is easy, we know we’re doing this for the good of the pupils and don’t take ourselves too seriously, we try to enjoy ourselves along the way, make friends and support each other wherever possible.
If you think this is something you would like to be involved in, please get in touch with the school office or fill in your details on the slip on this letter to hand in at school. You can also find and join us on Facebook!
Many thanks,
Elvington’s PTA
