Capacity Information
As you will all be aware, this week marked the wider opening of our school to children in Reception, Years 1 and 6. This was in addition to key worker and vulnerable children, who have been able to attend since Monday 23rd March.
I am pleased to inform that the aforementioned increase in pupil numbers has been successful (despite the recent inclement weather). However, it is important to stress that we have now reached our maximum capacity in all our pupil groups/bubbles. These groups are based on returns to either of the questionnaires, which were distributed last month. Can I please remind you that any children who arrive at school who are not on the lists (based on questionnaire returns) will not be allowed to attend on that day. If the group/bubble is full, the child/ren will go onto a waiting list for that specific group. Please email Mrs. Greening (office@elvingtonprimary.org.uk), if you would like your child/ren adding to the waiting list.
I realise that reaching our capacity could cause parents/carers to be frustrated that their child/ren cannot attend at this time. However, the safety of pupils and staff is my absolute priority, and ensuring we adhere to the Government’s guidelines, severely restricts the number of children we can currently have in school.
Mr. Buttery’s National Three Peaks Challenge
After successfully climbing Mount Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike (individually) and completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, we are now going to attempt to climb all three National Peaks in under 48 hours.
The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales. The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km), with a total ascent of 3064 metres (10,052ft) – twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles.
Any money raised will be split equally between Elvington Church of England Primary School’s PTA and Cancer Research UK. Your support will be greatly appreciated when we attempt this challenge between Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th August 2020. Class 1 Tour – to support transition
Please follow this link: https://youtu.be/aKCih0whCZ8, for a pre social distancing tour of Class 1. Please share it with your child if they are due to join our wonderful school in September.
Spelling Grids
To continue to support with spellings during this time, the staff have created spelling grids. These can be found on our website: www.elvingtonprimary.org.uk/general/spelling-practice-summer-second-term.
Peter and the Wolf Competition
Mrs. Rowntree has sent me the following link: http://yorkfestivalofideas.com/2020-online/throughout-festival/peter-wolf/, which could be of interest. Along with the performance on Peter and the Wolf, there is an activity booklet for primary age children and a collage competition with York artist Mark Hearld, where children aged 4-11 can win tickets to a summer concert (next year). The competition ends on the 15th June.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. Andrew Buttery
